Hazard lights on immediately.
If you can still steer, come off at the next exit or into the next services. A slow puncture will usually let you do this. Do not try to drive on a completely flat or shredded tyre for any distance.
If you cannot make it off, pull as far left onto the hard shoulder as you can, wheels turned to the left. On a smart motorway with no hard shoulder, aim for the next Emergency Refuge Area — the orange bays marked with an SOS sign.
Get everyone out of the vehicle through the passenger doors and up behind the barrier. Do not stand between the car and the traffic. Do not attempt to change the tyre yourself on a live motorway. Then call us — or 999 if you feel you are in immediate danger.
Where we come to you. We attend motorway services, Emergency Refuge Areas and hard shoulders across the motorway network nationwide, day and night. Tell us the motorway, the direction of travel and the nearest junction number or marker post and we will find you. On some stretches National Highways may need to protect a lane before work can safely begin — where that is the case we will tell you on the phone and arrange to meet you at the nearest safe point instead.
Motorways we cover. M1 London to Leeds, M6 Rugby to Carlisle, M25 London orbital, M4 London to South Wales, M5 Birmingham to Exeter, M40 and M42 through the Midlands, M62 and M60 across the north, A1(M) London to Newcastle, and the M3, M20 and M23 through the South East and the Kent ports. Service areas included — Toddington, Watford Gap, Corley, Hilton Park, Keele, Sandbach, Clacket Lane, South Mimms, Membury, Leigh Delamere, Strensham, Gordano, Hartshead Moor and Birch.
Vans and light commercials. We fit car, van and 4×4 tyres at the roadside. Same number, same 24-hour line.
